Cat trees are by far the most important piece of cat-only furniture that all indoor cats must have.

Not only do they satisfy all your cat’s needs, but they also don’t take up a lot of floor space. So even if you live in a small apartment, you can buy a cat tree for your cat.

Remember that your home is your cat’s entire world.

Cat trees meet your cat’s territorial needs and also prevent and solve many cat behavior problems.

I wrote an entire blog post about the mind-blowing benefits of cat trees. I hope this convinces you.

To put it simply, if you can’t live without a bed or a couch, your cat can’t live without a cat tree.

Adult Cat Tree Shopping Guide

Around 95% of cat trees available on the Canadian market are not usable for cats. And they are definitely less than useless for large adult cats in particular.

They are small and wobbly, with tiny seats and awkward designs. And they are mainly made to please the ones with the credit card.

I truly want to teach you how to shop for cat trees from your cat’s point of view and based on their needs, wants, and desires. Because honestly, most cat parents suck at it. I say that with love.

Check out my cat tree shopping guide so you know how to shop for cat trees and what to look for and avoid.

All the cat trees below meet the requirements in this guide, so you can understand why I chose them and why cats approve of them.

In the Canadian market, the only place I found with a huge selection of high-quality cat trees that are also suitable for large adult cats is Wayfair Canada. So all the cat trees below are available there.

The cat trees below are also suitable for small to medium size cats, for growing kittens, and they will last a lifetime. So they are definitely worth the investment.

How Many Cat Trees Do You Need?

Regardless of how many cats you have, the number of cat trees you need depends mainly on the size of your home.

Since a bigger home requires more furniture, a bigger home also requires more cat trees.

It’s that simple.

The rule of thumb is:

One main cat tree per room or space.

If you have a large open space, you can definitely have more cat trees in there.

The cat tree should always be placed facing a window or balcony.

This will maximize your cat’s use of it while also giving them proper access to nature and fresh air, which is non-negotiable for indoor cats.

So:

  • For a studio apartment: Minimum one main cat tree.
  • For a one-bedroom apartment: Minimum two main cat trees.
  • For a two-bedroom apartment: Minimum three main cat trees.

If you live in a large house, five to seven cat trees are usually sufficient.

The Difference Between Main and Secondary Cat Trees

It’s simple.

Main cat trees are the biggest, tallest ones, and they are the ones you should buy first.

Main cat trees are the key cat trees that satisfy all your cat’s needs.

Secondary cat trees, on the other hand, are usually smaller and shorter. They complement main cat trees and can be added if you have additional spaces.

Best Main Cat Trees for Up to 3 Cats

For three cats, the cat tree must have at least three top seats, not necessarily at the same level, to avoid any conflict over territory between your cats and allow all of them to comfortably share the cat tree at the same time.

The cat tree must also be heavy enough to handle all three cats doing their cardio workouts at the same time.
