Dog carriers are not cages and should never be used as such.
They are still a necessary evil. And if your dog has to use a carrier, they should genuinely love it.
If your dog doesn’t feel safe, relaxed, and happy to be in their carrier, it shouldn’t be used. Period.
Whether you call them dog carriers or dog crates, the standard is the same. Spacious enough to move comfortably and freely. Soft, bright, and airy. The kind of space even a child would want to curl up in, not escape from.

What To Look For In A Dog Carrier
Look for soft, spacious, bright carriers with multiple openings and mesh panels so the carrier feels airy, open, and non-confining.
Large Carrier (Size Matters A LOT)
Your dog should be able to lounge, stretch, and lie down comfortably inside the carrier, chewing their favourite snack, enjoying healthy treats from a treat puzzle or sniff mat, or relaxing with their favourite toys.
That means the carrier must comfortably fit both your dog’s body plus their favourite self-entertainment items inside.
Soft Carrier Only
Anything that looks or feels like a cage is a hard NO.
If you wouldn’t put your child in a cage, don’t put your dog in one either.
Bright Carrier Only
Choose a bright, airy carrier with mesh panels that allow your dog to sniff, observe their surroundings, and see you.
